Friends Trevor Jones from Durban and Hans Hoffman from Rotterdam have sent the two photographs depicting the Portuguese steam tug POLANA and here it is what I have found about her:
Seam tug POLANA ex- JOÃO COUTINHO
Owned by the Portuguese Government (Capitania do Porto de Lourenço Marques). Call sign: MBAF
Built in 1902 by Hall Russel & Co., Abberdeen. Steel hull 33,55 x 7,03 x 3,35 meters, 216,00 grt, 18,00 nett tons.
2 compound steam engines, 4 cylinders, 500 IHP, 1 boiler, 3 furnaces - engines built in 1907 by Dunlop & Co., Holland. Crew: 16
If any one can had more information on this interesting tug, or on the dredger also in the back of the m.s. CLAIRWOOD, please make a comment or contact us...
Both photos taken in Lourenço Marques and the first belongs to the collection of Hans Hoffman, the secong to the Trevor Jones collection.
